Yes, when you Arc-Rotate an orthographic viewport, it becomes a user viewport.
It is supposed to do that.

This has been responded to in your thread in the 3ds Max 8 Specific discussion
group. The simple answer is "It is designed that way." If there is an
indication that any part of the install is faulty, then as a safeguard, the
installation is aborted. See your authorized dealer for a replacement DVD.

I have a question for you. You are asking the same question in 3ds Max through
R7, and 3ds Max 8 Specific discussion groups. Which version of Max are you
using????
