3ds Max 7 trial - Microsoft C++ runtime library runtime error

Hi, sorry if this is not the correct place to post but it looks like it is
so...

I am experiencing problems when creating a radiosity solution in 3ds Max 7
trial. I have a spherebox scene which has a daylight solution applied to it. I
then set sunlight to IES sun, and skylight to IES sky. Time set to the
Trepola..thingybob city in Libya at 20.00hrs.

When I open up advanced lighting options and (click yes to exposure control)
enable meshing and set it to 20 (or any value), then when I click start to
calculate the solution, it goes through the geometry for all objects, then it
processes them all, and it is either at the end of the processing stage or at
the end of the next step which I think is initialising, or possibly when close
to done at 85% accuracy (I will double check in the meantime to see where
exactly it is) that this error occurs.

Whether or not I set the exposure control myself and adjust contrast and
brightness this error still occurs. I can not calculate a solution without this
error to get a renderable scene.

As far as I am aware I have tried to do this with all of the scanline renderers,
including mental ray to no avail.

I have also tried it without the meshing and am unsure as to whether it works
because it suddenly jumps out of the processing section quite quickly and the
"start" tab changes to "continue", which does nothing. No
error however occurs this way, but I need to use an accurate solution with the
meshing included.

Adjusting the exposure control for the above method does not get rid of the burn
on all of my models, and the render preview shows them all rendering in black no
matter what. Applying materials with high reflectance values does not change
this, neither does leaving them without textures.

If anybody could help with this it would be appreciated thanks.
Andy

P.S. I have tried installing newest visual studio express and all related SDKs
from microsoft website and still it does not fix this. I was informed it may be
a plugin problem by an old user of the software.

Intel Quad Q6600 2.4
Nvidia 8300GS - newest forceware driver
2gb Ram
Windows XP and Vista Home Premium 32bit(On seperate drives, same problem with
both, and XP on spare comp)
