Tool Tips Vanish in 2ms

I am new to 3ds Max and just started in with the tutorials. I am currently doing
the one where you create an orange and add it into the scene with the bottle,
knife, apple, and leaves on the table. I am at the point where I am supposed to
create a sphere for the orange, and the tutorial says that a tool-tip will
appear identifying the object my cursor is hovering over. Indeed the tool-tip
appears, but it disappears again after about 1 ms -- far too fast for any normal
human to read what it says. I have scanned thru the options dialog panels but
cannot for the life of me figure out where to change the settings so the
tool-tip will remain visible for a reasonable amount of time so that I can read
the dam thing.
