| object/material combo kills Scanline |

My scene contains a character with clothes and detailed boots all lit with
omni lights. MentalRay renders the scene without problems, although the
shadows look bad and I would prefer to use Scanline for this.
However, when I use Scanline, several lines are rendered and then 3ds Max
crashes right before the eyes were to be rendered. The only ways to prevent
this are to 1) hide the boots or 2) apply a default material to the eyes.
Applying the default material to the boots does nothing, nor does making the
boots invisible to reflections.
Please help! I have run out of ideas to try.

Make sure you have sufficient swap space. Is your C drive full by chance?
Set you swapspace to be 3x your RAM. Also you might look at the textures
on
the eyes and see if they are really big by chance. It sounds like max is
running out of memory on the boots and eyes, so you need to either see why
they are the problem, or give it more swap space. -marK
