I want on object to emit light using Mental Ray.
This is possible with the Scanline Renderer by using the Advanced Lighting
Override Material.
Mental Ray does not supprot the Advanced Lighting Override Material.
Hence what is the method with Mental Ray.
Rendering with Mental Ray by Thomas Driemeyer mentions for Mental Ray
versions 3.1 and higher a Mental Ray Area Light can use an instance of an object
(apart from the usual rectangle, disc, sphere or cylinder as shapes for the
area light) to emit light from the surface of an object.
However, I do not see where in the interface I can choose such an option.
Mental Ray gurus to the rescue please.

Unfortunately, Objects Lights per se are currently not supported by the
3dsmax connection to MR.
What you can do is assign a self-illuminating material to your object (e.g.
put an output map with a high value into the self-illum slot) and then
render with Final Gather on.
