Own render farm or outsourcing of rendering services ?

Hello,

may I have one question ?

Do small and/or medium firms (enterprises) use their own rernder farms 
(workstations or nodes) or they outsource this rendering process to other firms

?

Please, what is your own experience (opinion)...?
