A small survey regarding using render farms
Tue, 11 Jul 2006 11:04:19 PDT
Hello,

wouldn't you mind if I did here a small survey for my final thesis regarding
render farms ?

In case you use your own render farm (and you are individual or a company
emploeee), please, could you answer these several easy questions (the more
individual answers the better :o)) ?

1) Do you use typical PC (box) or 1U, 2U.. servers in rack ?
2) How many render nodes do you have in your render farm ?
3) What type of processors do you use (AMD or Intel) ?
4) All of your nodes are "nearly" identical (same type of CPU,
"same" cpu
speed, same RAM capacity ) ?
5) Which hardware architecture does your render farm have ? (nodes, file
server, backup server - storage, how many switches.., 1Gb or 10Gb data
transfer...)
6) Which software do you use for rendering in render farm (3rd party net
renderer or your own)?
7) How many people manage your render farm ? (one worker for HW, one for SW
..?)
8) Which monitoring system do you use for net render (VNC or any other) ?

Thank you very much.

Hi Jan,

There is nothing wrong with posting a survey here, as long as replies are
sent to you personally and not back on this forum...

So please post a follow-up with a contact email for those that wish to
provide answers directly back to you - as per the forum rules, we discourage
online polling as that is not the function of this discussion group.

Thx

Yes, thank you for a recommendation :-)

For everyone who'd be so kind and answer my questions, my email - where you
can send the answers - is:

jan.melichar@mayamax3d.net

Thank you very much.
