Oliver,
I don't know if this is the case in this case, but SOME demo software
don't allow scenes to be saved that are made with the demo. So if you
have 'autosave' turned on, they will view this as a 'save' and reset the
values. That does sound a lot like what you're describing. (isn't there
a setting in Max that says 'save scene before rendering'?)
I'd check that first before considering the actual product buggy.
