I have been having continuous trouble trying to get optimal weights using 
envelopes, weight table, and paint ...


As soon as I seem to be getting somewhere, I notice the hand is off the bone. 
This seems odd,  as you can see when the skin modifier is deselected, the
geometry remains perfectly symmetrical and retains it's original pose.  Could
this have happened after I mirrored my weights?
