I can't help you regarding the AMC file format.
Re: BVH issues. That is a limitation of the BVH file format. You can import
the BVH file onto a temporary biped. Yes, it will change your biped's
structure. But you can then save out a .BIP file and load that onto your
final biped. Your final biped will retain its structure.
