Been waiting a while for an answer here.
I purchased one of the Discreet Siggraph 2004 Master Class DVDs that covers
vehicle rigging. Not very clear for the most part, lost of things left out and
would not recommend.
Good luck, I have been looking for a detailed step by step tutorial for years
and still have not had any joy.
If you do come across anything, please PM me with details.
