Drag-n-drop instancing works differently depending where I drop the material. I
wish it didn't rename my materials.
1. Open Max 9 (32bit WinXP), then open Material Editor.
2. Change the 1st Standard into a Multi/Sub-Object material, Keep Old.
3. Drag the material from the 2nd sample slot, drop into the MatID2 slot of the
first sample slot, choose Instance.
- Note how the matID2 material is named the same as the original.
4. Click on the matID3 material to open it.
5. Drag the material from the 2nd sample slot, drop into the
"Standard" name button (below Show End Result), choose Instance.
- Note how both matID2 and matID3 assume matID3's name, NOT the name from |
