After being forced to learn Maya to use at the office I've run across some nice
tools that Max doesn't have (not many lol). One is in the Bonus Tool set called
Automatic Wrap.
You can select a group of faces and it will distribute them much the same way
Headus (other software) Unwrap would - It's pretty picky, but it gets you a good
start. Unlike pelt which pulls things apart this will try to distribute with the
least amount of distortion between faces and not simply relax them from one
another.
So if you've modeled a building or something and want to get the ins and outs /
Length of the wall it will do a good job placing faces apart from one another
the same way they appear in mesh form. I'm not sure if Max 9 can do this as I
haven't messed with 9.0 Much, but I'm getting 2008 here in a few weeks when its
released.
