ATLAS Enabled Gridview works from visual studio but not from
server

I'm trying to implement a gridview control using atlas & asp.net per the
following article:

The page I've written works perfectly when I go to Build -> Website, then
debug from visual studio on my local machine. However when I upload my pages to
the server the gridview works but it doesn't use AJAX. It reloads the entire
page each time I make a change.

I've loaded atlas on the server and I've uploaded several atalas samples and
they all behave in the same manner. Do I need to do something besides load atlas
and upload the files?
