Wrox's Professional ASP.NET 3.5 is publishing soon too (again by Bill Evjen,
Scott Hanselman, and Devin Rader), but not before it's been completely,
thoroughly checked against the RTM which is available today. So, all of the
authors and editors will spend the next 6 weeks or so rechecking every line of
code and then when it's completely verified to be working with the RTM, we'll
ship it to the printer in mid-January and it will be available on store shelves
around the end of February. We'd love to have it sooner but we just couldn't
justify printing a book without checking it versus the RTM which is what it
would have taken to have it available in December, we hope most ASP.NET
developers can afford the wait.

The specs for it are:

Copyright 2008
pages: ~1800
cost: $54.99 list price US
ISBN-10: 0470187573
ISBN-13: 978-0470187579

The table of contents is below, with some highlights on some of the completely
new chapters and topics for 3.5.

1 Application and Page Frameworks
2 ASP.NET Server Controls and Client Side Scripts
3 ASP.NET Web Server Controls
4 Validation Server Controls
5 Working With Master Pages
6 Themes and Skins
7 Data Binding in ASP.NET 2.0
8 Data Management with ADO.NET
9 Querying with LINQ
10 Working with XML and LINQ to XML
11 IIS 7.0 Development
12 Introduction to the Provider Model
13 Extending the Provider Model
14 Site Navigation
15 Personalization
16 Membership and Role Management
17 Portal Frameworks and Web Parts
18 HTML and CSS Design with ASP.NET
19 ASP.NET Ajax
20 ASP.NET AJAX Control Toolkit
21 Security
22 State Management
23 Caching
24 Debugging and Error Handling

27 Modules and Handlers
28 Using Business Objects
29 Building and Consuming Services
30 Localization

34 The ASP.NET Project Lifecycle
35 Packaging and Deloying ASP.NET Applications
Appendix A Migrating Older ASP.NET Projects
Appendix B Tools of ASP.NET Developers
Appendix C Silverlight
Appendix D ASP.NET Resources

We've made room for all of this new material (more than 500 pages of new
coverage compared to the original 2.0 book) by condensing some of the early
coverage and deleting the mobile development chapter which will be posted for
free download from Wrox.com instead.

Hello Jim,

Thanks for the information on Wrox Book.

It would be nice if you can add one single chapter on MVC, since the first CTP
bits would be around in few weeks time. MVC is the most demanded solution by
asp.net community and deserves a full book on its own.

Since Scott Hanselman one of your author has already worked a lot on this and it
would be nice enough to have one chapter in this great book specially devoted to
professionals.

I am sure you must be considering a full book on the subject of MVC as well.

Thanks for the suggestion. We've discussed MVC and yes, Scott knows a ton about
it, but with MVC still in alpha or CTP (or something way less than release), one
of the decisions we made in the book was to only cover items that have been
released. This is a book that will be around for 18-24 months probably covering
something that isn't released and will change a lot a few months after the book
publishes doesn't make sense for most readers.

I expect the first thing we'll have on ASP.NET MVC is a Wrox Blox
(http://www.wrox.com/go/blox) a 20-30 page inexpensive electronic download. And
yes, a book is on the way too. :)
