I have just published a blog post about a solution that works both in XP and
Vista under user account privilage without using P/Invoke.
Everyone knows how to get serial number of hard drives but it took me over 50
hours to figure out how to do it in .Net without any user privilage problem.
Here is the direct link to the blog entry.
Happy Coding!

@ docluv and pbromberg Thank you for your replies.
@ pbromberg
Writing an API/Library comes with resposibility that I can't accept as we speak.
My project called Smarties 2008 is taking 18 hours of my time every day. My
mission is to make life easier for developers but at same time not to make them
lazy or take away their creativities.
In fairness I've already done more than my share on the matter I don't want any
credits or virtual points for my submissions either. If you are kind enough to
read my next blog post that I just published then you would know why I have just
said that.

Very cool stuff, you are to be commended for your hard work digging up these
details and how to leverage them.

Not bad at all. Now, if you really want to take it to "the next level"
post a download of a static class library that will do all of it and all people
have to do is compile it and set a reference to it.
Can you do it? If you don't have download capability, use Windows Live SkyDrive
public folder for the download, or create a new http://code.msdn.microsoft.com/
profile and put it there.
Now, How about it?
