Export STEP missing parts on import to CAD systems

Export STEP missing parts on import to CAD systems
Thu, 27 Mar 2008 10:21:56 -070
I have exported (STEP) a small assembly that contains the same part assembled
multiple times. Imagine a block with the same bolt assembled into it a few
times.

Upon importing the assembly into Pro/E (and other CAD tools) the assembly only
contains the first instance of the parts.

Any suggestions or possible settings? Note: I have tried STEP AP203 and AP214
(AP214 is my goal).

Is the problem you are having in Pro/E or in the Export from Acrobat 3D?

If you are exporting from Acrobat 3D, can you verify that the STEP file exported
contains the full assemnly with all the instances by reading it back into
Acrobat 3D?

It appears to happen in at least two high end CAD systems (Pro/E and UG - still
checking on CATIA V5 import). The file reads back into A3D ok but I thought it
strange that the CAD tools could not read the data (only one instance of multi
assembled parts).

I was wondering if A3D is doing something different with STEP then some of the
CAD vendors. Very strange.

Any insight?
