AE silently breaking/not fixing some

I think I posted about this problem a while back, but if I did, it looks like
that post has gone to the place where old posts go, and I don't think I ever got
any response. Is anyone else seeing this behavior? It happens to the same
property in a given comp every time, and has happened on scale properties a in a
couple of projects, but I'm not yet sure if that represents a pattern. It
actually happens to the same property in dozens of very similar comps (I'm doing
day, tomorrow, tonight, next versions of graphic by linking to text layers in a
master comp), and doesn't appear to be related to the total number of
expressions in the project (I can reduce the project down to just a few comps
and it still happens). If I try to work around it by linking to an expression
control effect, then linking that control to the master comp, the control's
expression breaks. But if I link both the control and the original property to
the master comp, only the original property breaks, which is really curious.

I recall something about the algorithm for auto name correction not being
perfect, but I don't remember the specifics of instances where it doesn't work.

You could try creating a little script that uses the
app.project.autoFixExpressions() method, but I don't know if that would help if
AE doesn't know that the expressions are broken.

It would be useful to be able to predict the conditions that cause this to
happen. What kind of error messages do you get (or do you not get any)?

I get no error messages. That's one of the things about this that kind of freaks
me out. I use a ton of expressions in these projects, and it is very easy for a
broken expression to go unnoticed for a while.

Can you boil it down to the simplest possible project that exhibits the problem
and post it somewhere (or describe how to create it)?
