Playlist causes "General Error"

Playlist causes "General Error"
Mon, 7 Aug 2006 06:50:30 -0700
I have completed a DVD project including 3 timelines.

I added a playlist, put the three timelines into that list and linked a button
in my main menu to the playlist.

When building a DVD folder or disc image the process halts with "General
Error" message.

If I remove the button link to the playlist, or the timelines from the playlist
I still get the same error.

If I remove the playlist altogether the project builds fine.

If I simply create "new playlist" and add nothing to it or links to it
and try to build I again get the "General Error" message.

Tim,

I've only heard of this once before (but I may have missed additional posts).
The solution for the individual was to create the empty playlist first, then
import the assets, then build the timelines and add the timelines to the
playlist.

Since you already tried building with just an empty playlist, you may have seen
that topic already. I don't recommend building with an empty playlist, so you
might want to try populating the playlists and test the build at that point.

Hi Jeff

Oh yes I do remember glancing through that post, but found it a little unclear.

I will try a little test in the current project using dummy assets and timeline,
I don't really want to recreate my timelines and all the associated chapters etc
all over again.

Thanks

Hello

For those who may be interested I found that when encountering the problem of a
"General Error" due to the introduction of a playlist to the project,
I did NOT have to rebuild the entire project from scratch.

Following advice found earlier in this thread I deleted all timelines and their
respective assets. I left all my menus, their links and transitions in tact, bar
those that would link to the timelines of course.

I then created a new playlist.

I then re-imported the assets and re-created the timelines.

These timelines were then added to the playlist. The project can now build the
DVD folder or image where it failed before.

I then had to re-create my chapter points and any links that were broken by
deleting the old timelines.

I hope that Adobe will be fixing this one in future, but before then I would
suggets that whenever creating a new project make a new playlist in the project
before doing anything else. It will save time later down the line.

Tim.

Very bizarre, as I am right now building a disc that has 3 playlists, all of
which were added after assets were imported.
No General Error.
But there has to be a guaranteed, 100% repro.
