ON/OFF switching & Chapter selection

What I want to do is have the status of the subtitles (on/off) appear on the
main menu as a single button. If the subtitles are off then the button will
display "Turn Subtitles ON" and vice-versa. Ok, I have that working
just fine by creating two nearly-duplicate main menus with PLAY ALL buttons that
link appropriately. Now the issue is the chapter selection menu . . .

Do I need to create parallel versions of these also? I tried having a single
version but I can't find a way for the RETURN TO MAIN MENU button to go back to
the correct version of the Main Menu (the "return to last menu" link
option is grayed out).

Help?
