How to let a subtitles second, third, ...

How to let a subtitles second, third, ...

Hello,

in Encore DVD 2.0, when I try to import the following subtitle text script, I
get the error (translated from german): "No text in script line:",
followed by the line of the script that causes the error.

The script files content is:
1 00;00;02;15 00;00;07;00 Die Anatomie des Dr. Nicolaes Tulp
1632

It seems that if a line starts with a number, Encore interprets it as the
beginning of a new subtitle and tries to parse for the expected structure
(number of subtitle, start time, end time, text) which it doesn't find, when the
line is meant to be just an additional subtitle line that belongs to the actual
subtitle. In this case the year 1632 should be placed in line two of the first
subtitle.

I don't get the purpose of the subtitle number anyway. As far as I can see I do
not need to use subsequent numbers. The script
1 00;00;02;15 00;00;07;00 Die Anatomie des Dr. Nicolaes Tulp
3 00;00;08;15 00;00;10;00 Die Anatomie des Dr. Nicolaes Tulp

is imported without errors.
So why do I (or should I) need to put the numbers in the script file?

Anyway, with or wothout numbers, the import process should check the whole line,
and if it doesn't fit into the pattern of being a subtitles first line, it
should handle it as a subsequent line of text of the actual subtitle.

Does anybody know a workaround? The only one I found is to place the number I
want in line two in the first line, then import the subtitle script, and then
insert a line break in Encore.

Best regards,

hey christian - wondering if you ever found any workaround/answer to this -
lines starting with numbers getting killed is i guess a known bug, but adobe
seems not to worry about fixing it.

but i'd really like to figure this out - have a disc with 4 languages 800 titles
each and if straight .txt import doesn't work i'll be in quite deep.

hey krisc:

i've since come to realize that the problem is even more bizarre than i thought,
namely, 2nd line posts ok if the subtitles are in English, but the same 2 line
title in chinese does NOT. to my understanding both files are .txt with utf-8.

see below:
      00;45;38;27 00;45;43;19 知道一共有16个区 还有
           12个回路?结束
2nd line is results in error msg & doesn't import.

00;45;48;27 00;45;53;19 There's 16 districts,
           12 circuits per channel? Over.
2nd line imports ok.

am NOT using subtitle numbers. tried the same with them, no difference.

Zachar,

The first line of your Chinese text doesn't look too healthy either. ;)
