More then one timeline

More then one timeline

I have 1 piece of footage that I then made a timeline for. However I need to
link different sections to that timeline, so do I need to duplicate my timeline
to link to a different section or can one timeline handle a bunch of links.

One could do either, but a single Timeline can have many Links. If you create
Chapters in that single Timeline, you can Link to each of those Chapters. You
can also create Chapter Playlists (Encore2, and above) to play those Chapters in
any order that you set, from a Menu. You can have each Chapter appear in
different Chapter Playlists, depending on what you want to do.

This keeps the size of your Assets down, so you can build a DVD with the highest
quality (bitrate). You could duplicate your Timeline, but that doubles the size
of your Assets, right off the bat.

Depending on the navigation that you wish, I'd stick to a single Timeline,
unless you really need a dupe of it.

You might want to grab the manual and look into Links, Chapter Points and
Chapter Playlists. Also see Menus, as you will need that info soon. Most of this
info is also accessible from F1.

Before you plan your DVD layout, you might want to get out the pencil and paper
and sketch your navigation. Also, you can do a lot of renaming of your Assets,
both in the Project Panel and relating to Menu Button names. I find that a bit
of pre-planning there will make it all go more quickly, when it's time to start
making your Links.

The Flowchart is a good place to look, to get ideas for the above sketch.

Warning: Do NOT set any Overrides, as you will not need them, especially with
Chapter Playlists.
