Washed Out DVD

I have a problem that seem to be quite common but mine is very reproducible all
the time. I have gone through forum in search for an answer none of the
suggested solutions seems to provide one. I have created a DVD from several
Slideshows done through movie maker and exported to DV-avi. The DVD also
features a small movie shot on Philips DV Camera. My movie maker videos, the
Philips DV movie, all come up ok if compile a simple dvd with nero. But if I
make the dvd through encore all menus, and the movies gets washed out. This is
using Encore 1.5

When I use encore CS3, the I get internal software error on all Movie maker
clips. I have changed my vga card from intel 845g to ATI radeon 7000 but these
problems persisted. I have removed Divx Codecs and all other codecs installed on
my computer. What could I be missing here.

Compaq d330 Intel p4 2.6Ghz
1Gb Ram
320 Hdd
intel 845g Display and chipset.

The clip may not contain proper colorspace information and Encore's transcoder
introduces a second level of color limiting to make it broadcast safe. The only
way to possibly avoid these issues is to convert the AVI to a different format
using VirtualDUB or SUPER© or transcode it externally.

Interesting case now. I have now just installed the encore on my new
acquisition. Everything is as normal. No problems at all. Same files same
project. No washout problems. The only change here is the computer. This is
probably pointing at hardware or operating system. But What?

New PC Intel Core Duo 2.2Ghz 2Gb Ram intel Graphics Media.

Maybe... but I've also read that video editing software may become
"confused" when many codecs are installed... and each codec installer
puts an entry in the Registry to say "mine is the most important"

I don't know if a "rogue" codec install could cause the problem you've
seen with Encore, since I've seen this kind of problem reported in the Premiere
editing forum, but worth a thought... and keep close track of what you install
after this, so if the problem returns, you know that it was caused by a codec
install

Also, while everything is working... make a copy of the entire hard drive for
easy recovery in case of a problem
