| 'Error Setting Up Transcoder' This product is sooo flakey! |

Hi,
I'll admit that I'm coming to the end of my patience with this software. I've
run v2.0 through to the current CS3 and I can't say I've ever had an bug free
project.
Anyway rant over, here is my current problem. I've got a big project (6-7 nested
menus with motion backgrounds and loop points), it's constructed entirely of
previously rendered VOB files, as in my experience this makes for less
transcoding therefore less hassle.
Unfortunately a couple of the VOBs that make the backgrounds to the menus use
embedded MP2 audio which is a big no-no with encore. So I replaced just the
background audio tracks with PCM (48k, 16bit) WAV files. But now I get an 'Error
Setting Up Transcoder' when I try to build.
What I want to avoid is re-rendering all of the VOB files again in an external
program with embedded PCM audio, as this will take ages. Any ideas?
Thanks,

Thanks for the reply Harm, it's worth a try.
Do you know if Encore always has problems with suplimenting a video stream (with
embedded audio) with completly separate audio track?

Do you know if Encore always has problems with suplimenting a video
stream
(with embedded audio) with completly separate audio track?
Most authoring applications are going to have trouble with this one.
A VOB is a Video OBject, and is essentially a wrapper/multiplexed stream
containing all the necessary bits for the timeline.
This includes Video file, All audio streams, subtitle streams etc - and using an
already multiplexed stream with a separate audio file is asking for trouble.
VOB files are limited to no more than 1Gb each - this is why when you look at
the content on a DVD-Video disc, you will see things like:
VTS_01_1.VOB
VTS_01_2.VOB
VTS_01_3.VOB
All will be under 1Gb, and all are actually the same timeline split into parts
so that a set top player can read them. These are your timeline. (The file that
will accompany it, VTS_01_0.VOB will hold the menus for that VTS, and the IFO
files tell the player what is in each stream)
So, by using a VOB with another audio file, you are going to confuse the issue,
and will - if it even works at all - either force a re-transcode, or more likely
will fall over altogether in a state of utter confusion.
If the remux does work you may well still end up with a disc that does not
behave as expected, or even play at all.
