I posted this message in the Creative Suite/Windows forum, where I think it is
best placed. I was searching for a solution to the Encore PGC error, so am
posting this note.
Here is the link.

Basically, CS3 codecs ("Mainconcept (Adobe2) ...") are entered in the
Windows registry with double quotes around the values for the "Friendly
Name" and file name. This produces a false "broken" report from
the Sherlock codec utility. As far as I know, this does not create any
functional problem with the codecs.

I agree. And it suggests using a different utility instead of Sherlock. In the
following thread, adobe support apparently pointed a user to a free utility that
not only lists codecs but will remove and register them:

This is the link to the "DirectShow Filter Utility."

Interesting, as I have used Sherlock on both my workstation and laptop, and
never got the "broken" message. Guess I've been lucky. I appreciate
the links, as I often recommend Sherlock, when folk have CODEC problems, and I
may have been doing them a disservice.
Thanks,
