Why cant I import .mov files that are 720x576 anamorphic?

I have started dvd project that is checked for 16:9.

I am working in SD, standard definition, since its dv footage to begin with the
resolution is 720x576. I have exported my footage from Avid as 16:9 squarepixels
(dont know if that was bad) but nevertheless I did. The mov is a container
telling it that "hey this is 720x576, but whereever I am played streetch me
out to 16:9 :) "... fine... But encore doesnt seem to accept this footage.
In .mov file the info reads "normal size "720x576" and below it
says "current size 1080xwhatever 16:9 format"

720x576 with a pixel aspect ratio of 1.0 (square pixels) is not anamorphic. If
you want anamorphic, export with a pixel aspect ratio of 1.42 - that's
anamorphic SD PAL.

This is sooo common with Avid & FCP systems.
These always call Square Pixel "Anamorphic", but AFAIK this is not
strictly correct, but also at the same time not exactly wrong either.
It is done like this because Quicktime cannot deal with PAR correctly, and
always sees everything as Square Pixels.
