| DL with Matrox RTX.100 |

I'm still trying to get a handle on the DL workflow. (My ver 2 is being
installed this week.)
To utilize DL between PPro & AE ... do both apps need to be running? Is this
right? If so, I'm in trouble because my capture card can only utilize one app at
a time.
One option would be to use the Parhelia adapter for my After Effects output and
the RTX.100 for Adobe Premiere.
Fortunately, I'm heading to the Production Studio road show towmorrow and I can
talk to Adobe directly ... but any enlightenment would be appreciated!

Hi ntoskey,
Unfortunately, there is no way to switch output when you are using the RTX 100
and you have both Premiere and After Effects open. The RTX 100 will only output
what you have open first. Premiere open first, premiere output, ae open first ae
output!
Matrox implemented the Alt Tab preview in the new RTX 2 (one of the reasons I
upgraded) it was not possible with the RTX 100 (believe me I begged and whined
for the feature since Pro 1.0).
Now about your DL question, no you do not have to have AE open to launch an
After Effects comp from premiere or to import. You either create a new comp by
using the DL in Premiere or import by browsing to an existing comp on your hard
drive. When you create a new comp in Premiere it automatically launches AE.
Hope this helps.
Cheers,

Thanks guys, it's sinking in ... but I'm still confused.
WHen I'm in PPro, doesn't the act of creating a new AE comp or importing one
from bridge essentially launch AE with PPro running in the background? Won't
this conflict with RTX.100 wanting to run these only one at a time?
One thought is to use the NTSC output of my Parahelia APVE card for AE
monitoring and leave the RTX.100 NTSC output to strictly PPro.

Hi Ntsokey,
Yes the act of creating an AE Comp does launch After Effects. With the RTX 100
and premiere open. AE will just pop up a dialog complaining that the RTX
hardware is currently in use by something else. You can click ok and move on and
work in AE. You will just not be able to preview your AE comp unless you
shutdown premiere and restart ae.
However, if you work in AE then go back to premiere, your comp will be there,
just drag it to a sequence and you can see the work you did in ae on your
monitor. That worked pretty good for me when I was using the RTX 100.
I'm sorry I don't know anything about the Parhelia cards. One of the reasons I
upgraded to the RTX 2 was because I could ALT Tab between applications and my
video display would change. But I have been told by the Matrox people this is
not possible with the RTX 100.
Cheers,
