cannot dynamic link existing clips on the prem pro timeline

howdy

I am aware of how to create a new AE project, save it and import it into Ppro
via dynamic link. I am also aware how to create a new AE project within PremPro,
which automatically creates a dynamic link. What I cannot figure out is how to
take an existing clip off the Prempro timeline and dynamic link it. There
appears to be no way. I must be missing somoething. The normal work flow of most
projects is to first edit, then edit the clips in AE. With this new dynamic link
it appears you have to work backwards. First create the AE project. import the
clip into AE, save it. then import it into Prempro via dynamic link, then edit
it. This is completely backwards to the normal workflow. This means you have to
import hunderds of clips, hours of footage into AE then into Prempro, then throw
70% of it away that did not make it to the first rough cut.

How does Dynamic link work with a rough cut in place on the timeline?

thanks in advance

Dynamic link works one way. From After Effects into Premiere Pro. You can not
link from Premiere Pro into After Effects and make changes in Premiere Pro and
expect them to show up in After Effects.

You can, however, copy from one timeline to another.

I use Premiere Pro to edit my clips to a rough cut. I then copy the entire
timeline by selecting it in Premiere Pro and copying it with Ctrl-C.

I then use Dynamic Link to open a new After Effects comp, where I use Ctrl-V to
paste the material from the Premiere Pro sequence into the After Effects
timeline.

I either leave out any titles, or delete them in After Effects, or use them as
placeholders to create motion titals with text animations in After Effects.
Titles come over as solids.
