For years I have been capturing files in Premiere 5.1/6/6.5 and always ended up
with a .avi video file and a .wav audio file. Recently I had to rebuild my
computer and now when I capture my video I find a combined video and audio .avi
file. Have I screwed up a setting somewhere? I want to get back to the old
system befor I tear out the little hair I have left. Any help will be very
welcome.

When I posted my plea for help I omitted to mention that I use a Matrox RT.X100
capture card. I don't know if that is relevant bu it might be. My system now has
an Intel DP965LT motherboard with an Intel dual core 3.0 GHz processor, 2GB RAM,
Sound Blaster Audigy2.ZS sound card and separate system, data and export drives
so I don't expect system limitations.
I really need to have separete .wav files and .avi files so that I can sort out
sound problems that are beyond the capability of Premiere.
Hoping somebody can help.
Thanks,

Many thanks for the tip. It works for some files but can be a bit fragile. I see
you are using 6.0. 6.5 is very similar but with a very much improved titler
making the upgrade well worth the trouble.
