My company purchased the Adobe Type suite (I think this is what it is called)
several years ago. Has anything in this type suite changed over the past 6-yrs?
Just curious if this is updated or if it is the same fonts that were sold 6-yrs
ago.

kat,
The current version is virtually all OpenType fonts (not PostScript Type 1), has
some new fonts, and if you still have Berthold fonts, due to changes in
licensing, they are absent from the current version. You would be entitled to
the upgrade price.
Some of the OpenType fonts may include extended character sets which do not
exist in Type 1 and you have cross-platform compatibility (do not have to
purchase fonts twice for both Mac and Win use).

Hi Neil,
Thanks for the response. Besides the addition/subtraction of a few fonts (if I
understand you correctly) and the ability to also use the fonts a PC, are there
any real advantages/benefits to upgrading and having access to the fonts as
OpenType fonts?

kat,
PostScript Type 1 has been around for about two decades -- pretty long time for
computer software. How much other old software do you have that still works on a
modern OS? At some point, support for the format will languish.
And don't undersell the importance of having a modern cross-platform font
technology at your beck and call. Do a search in the Adobe.com knowledge base on
OpenType for more detail.
That said, I'd buy the OT versions in a heartbeat.

The name of Adobe's product is Font Folio. The advantages of the newest version
compared to Font Folio 8 or 9 (which is what I'd guess you have) are:
- hundreds more fonts
- all fonts in OpenType format
The advantages of having the fonts in OpenType format are:
- cross-platform font files
- added typographic functionality (in many of the fonts, accessible in InDesign,
Photoshop, Illustrator, and even QuarkXpress 7)
- additional language support (in some of the fonts)
- There are also a few zillion other minor enhancements, such as adding the euro
character and a few others, to all the fonts, relative to the versions you
have.
Regards,
