Embedding Frutiger Condensed in an Acrobat Form

Embedding Frutiger Condensed in an Acrobat Form
Tue, 13 Mar 2007 11:12:39 -080
I recently purchased the Frutiger Condensed family in part so that I could use
them in Acrobat forms that I am working on. I have uninstalled my old PostScript
version and installed the new OpenType version. When I tried to set the font of
the form field, it told me that the font couldn't be embedded. I thought all OT
fonts from Adobe could be embedded. If I can't, is there a list where I can see
what font choices I have?

Thanks,

Warren,

Font embedding works for type included in the document. I don't think
it was intended to work with form fields.

Font embedding *does* work for form fields, but only for fonts that specify they
are okay to use for "editable embedding." When you go to buy fonts
from Adobe, the info on the right-hand side of the page with the font info has a
bit that says "Embedding" and what kind of embedding the font can be
used for.

All fonts Adobe sells can be used for "preview and print" embedding.
However, only fonts that Adobe has all rights to, plus those we license from
Bauer, can be used for "editable embedding." Unfortunately Frutiger is
licensed from Linotype and can't be used in that way.

The most similar design in the Adobe Type Library that can be used for editable
embedding would be Myriad Pro. It has both Condensed and Semicondensed variants
available.
