I am trying to get my fonts off of my old Sony Vaio PC and onto my new Gateway
PC. Both are running Windows XP, but the Vaio is running PC Home and the Gateway
is running PC Pro.

You have to use the Windows font installer to install fonts. You can't just copy
and paste them. This was true on XP and it's true on Vista as well. Voice of
experience talking here!

Drag and Drop works for both TrueType and Type 1 fonts, and invokes the
installation routines. BUT command Line (DOS) COPY command does NOT work until
the next system restart!
Some applications use the windows registry to determine what fonts are
available, while others look at the contents of the folder. These can be out of
synch, and definitely will be if the COPY command has been used in the current
windows session.
For Type 1 fonts, both the .pfb and .pfm files must start out in the same folder
AND you have to drag the .PFM file, NOT the .pfb file!
If you drag and drop, you should make sure that you're COPYing (drag with the
Ctrl Key pressed) and not MOVEing or you may lose your original and have no
backup. By default, Windows will MOVE if the source and destination folder are
on the same logical drive, COPY if they're on different drives.
I don't know what ATM Deluxe does, but under Vista it's a moot point.
