I seem to recall that earlier version of Adobe Type Manager (3.x?)
were able to create customized instances of Multiple Master fonts.
Unless I'm once again missing the obvious, this ability isn't in
version 4.1 (Windows).
This page
http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=328600&sliceId=1
references something called the Font Creator utility in the following
context:
Multiple master fonts include a number of primary font instances,
preconfigured at differing intersections of their design axes. For
example, Myriad includes 15 primary instances, ranging from 215 LT 300
CN (Light Condensed) to 830 BL 700 SE (Black SemiExtended). You use
the Font Creator utility to create custom instances.
Understanding that MM fonts are no longer offered or supported, is
that utility still available anywhere?

This capability is still present in ATM 4.1 for Windows. Go to the "Add
Fonts" tab and in the "Source" pop-down choose "Create
Multiple Masters" (sic).

Thank you, Tom. And now that you point it out, that's where it's
always been. I must be losing it!

Well, it is kind of a weird UI in the first place... I had to go fool around
with it to remember where it was.
Cheers,
