quick select doesn't find

I list line entity.... copy the length of the entity from list information
........open quick select..... select  "line"  "length"
then paste length obtained from list info......  quick select reports no objects
found.

Why can't it at least find the entity that Autocad just listed.

I've tried going out to eight decimal places to ensure accurate length.
