Hey Doggie,
It seems like you're using quite the arsenal of programs.
MotionBuilder PLE only works as a learning edition. In other words, you can
import FBX files into MotionBuilder but cannot export or save as FBX. There is
a generic file format named PLE, if I remember correctly that it saves itself
as. This is to ensure that users have limited access to MB, but enough to
simply learn the product. Also, I think the renders have watermarks on them.
In any case, you were asking what you could do to get MB scenes back to Max.
Unfortunately, this isn't an option with any PLE versions. You'd need
MotionBuilder 7.5 Ext2 to export/import everything properly.
MB 7.5 Ext2 has a new FBX Plug-in Export/Import option in the File menu that
ensures the best type of transfer of FBX files to and from 3ds Max. Also, if
you're working with Biped, it's the only way to go, really. So, unfortunately
with MB 6 Pro and MB 7 PLE, going back to Max isn't an option. The converter
won't help much either.
I should say, though, no matter what you're doing, please download the latest
converter from the link I mentioned above. There's no reason to use the old
one; in fact, you're just guaranteeing that you'll run into more problems, by
using the old one.
All in all, if you want the best 3ds Max/MB interoperability, using 3ds Max 9
and MotionBuilder 7.5 Ext2 is the way to go.
Again, the PLE version is very limited. If anything, revert back to using MB 6
Pro and you'll at least have better interoperability than right now, using the
PLE version. Simply download (from that link) the latest (2006.11.1) FBX
Converter (and ensure that you run it manually from your C: drive and not from
the MotionBuilder directory or Windows Start menu), the latest 3ds Max FBX
plug-ins (2006.11.1) (from our link, not the one you provided; to ensure you
officially have the latest ones) and you should be fine. Just use MB 6 Pro to
save back to the FBX file format once you're done your MB work and use the
converter to convert the MB 6 Pro file to 2006.11.1 FBX SDK.
Let me know how that works out for you, Doggie.
Take care,
