I have a similiar problem related to this topic. Any help would be appreciated. 
I have created simple geometry in MAYA 8.5, completed the UV layout in 0-1 space
in the texture editor and then exported as an obj. The problem occurs when
importing this obj in to 3DS MAX 8. The object imports correctly, but when
adding a UVW unwrap modifier to view the uv layout all the uv's that were
created in maya are now lost and do not appear with the model. This is strange
because I have watched a tutorial doing exactly the same procedure and the OBJs
UV's remained correct. Its a  very simple procedure of importing an obj file,
however when I do it I loose uv coordinates...??? So can anyone tell me how I
can keep my uvs intact on obj files that are impo
