Maya 8.5 viewport problem

I just downloaded the personal learning edition to try to learn maya, but the
central 3D viewport doesn't render completely. Only the left side of the screen
is rendered in the viewport. When I switch to the view mode that consists of 4
different angles everything shows up fine. But when it's in the perspective mode
full screen only the left side shows up and the entire right side is the default
background grey. Even the floor grid only renders on the left side. One thing
that does render is the X Y and Z from the axis in the top right corner. Any
help would be greatly appreciated
