Video cards do not help with rendering in Mental Ray, yet, as far as I know.
You can use any cheap card that can display the desktop, if it is just a
rendering machine, but if you model in it also, then get the highest card number
in the series in your budget. I'd seriousy consider getting a higher end game
card for that price. A high end game card should work better than a low end
workstation card anyway.
