Thanks for the replies.
I am using the latest version of Mental Ray and Maya. I do not have a program
specifically for network rendering, I just use the 2 mentioned applications.
1. I didn't realize Mental Ray for Maya can only use 8 CPUs with 1 unlimited
license, I thought it could use 8 computers, no matter how many processors each
one had.
2. I did render how you suggested (rendering the scene file directly on the
computer with 8 processors) and it is much faster than rendering using a
network.
// My renders have gotten more complicated and are taking 5-15min per frame now,
so the 8cpu computer helps
Also, I guess network rendering doesn't help much when rendering a still image,
does it?
3. I was hoping to use network rendering to make test renders. I would like to
be working in Maya on my computer, test render a still image using the network
(render on the 8 processor machine) while continuing to work on the scene file
at my computer.
I don't think this is possible though.
Any help or better ways of dealing with this subject would be appreciated.
