Fancy working for a Large, Big Name Company where your responsibilities,
salary and future are precisely laid out for you in Sections 132 thru 920 of
the Official Company Employment Document? Your sole responsibility will be
to maintain a huge behemoth of poorly written and undocumented code, which,
of course you won't actually be allowed to modify in case it breaks
something unexpected. Your customers will hate the program almost as much as
you, but fortunately they'll be too locked in to ditch it for something
better.
Hell No! I'd sooner feed my privates to a blender!
How about a dynamic (read: small), highly-profitable software company where
you can really let your creative juices flow, create mind-numbing products
and be showered in adulation by grateful customers.
Um, maybe, can you talk it up a bit?
I'll try; we create shareware applications running on tens of thousands of
computers across the planet (cue the World Customer Map). They're cool,
functional tools for home and small business. One moment we'll be testing
DVD burning or optimizing database routines, and the next discussing feature
enhancements or UI design.
You'll be a key member of the team, focussing on the tasks that best match
your expertise. You'll earn complete control of some of your own
applications which should bring you emotional and financial reward.
We support the Programmers' Bill of Rights and stock the best coffee, so
we'll have everything you need to be both productive and comfortable.
Now, you're talking, what's the catch?
Well, you'd need to live in/around Wellington and the Hurricanes have lost
Tana. Secondly, you need to be intelligent and either a skilled Delphi
programmer or an uber-guru who's keen to pick up the language.
Qualifications and level of experience aren't set in stone, you'll know (and
we will too) if you have what it takes.
