I fourth this.  We use the alignments to establish our profile views, but we
still draw the plan and profile elements manually.  You can sort of fudge in the
plan elements with a modified pipe network, but the profile absolutely must be
manually drawn to get the pipes to follow grade.

It would almost take a modified corridor object to emulate a pressurized pipe. 
This way the vertical profile could be designed, and the "pipe"
subassembly could hang on the vertical alignment.  I've thought about trying
that pipe trench sub-assembly but that would require the ability to project
sub-assembly components into the profile view just like the pipe networks tab
