Civil 3D 2009 allows you to extract a grading feature line from a corridor
feature line and have it remain dynamically linked to the corridor. That's
pretty cool.
What would be even cooler would be if other grading feature lines could have
their relationships to one another dynamically linked.
The way I imagine it working is that each feature line point would have
property: Elevation Source. The value could be either a typed elevation, an
elevation from DTM, or a reference to a point either on the same feature line
or another feature line.
This would allow you to design a building pad and dynamically link it to a Back
of Walk corridor feature line for example.
To really make it cool, when a Feature Line is selected, it's relationships
should display with dashed and colored lines (settings customizable, of course).
If the relationship between a feature line point is a slope value from a
reference point, the slope value should display and be editable in a way similar
to the AutoCAD Dynamic Input functionality. If the elevation is derived from
DTM, the elevation should display with a letter like S for surface or D for DTM
after it. If the elevation is from typed data, the elevation would simply
display in editable format.
The main idea here is to be able to set and save those relationships from which
point elevations are set and be able to edit them later.
