CS 2.1: What does 'Syndicate External Links' *actually* do?

In CS 2/1, in:

 Control Panel > Manage Blog > Syndication Settings >

 "If you want the link to posts for an external source to be syndicated as
the original link rather than a link to the internal copy of the post, the check
this"

(I assume the 'for' should be a 'from', so "posts from an external
source&quot.

So, in other words, does this mean that an external item that has been
syndicated by the blog gets published as a post to the blog that is doing the
aggregating?

If so, does the published post still live on the blog doing the aggregating even
after it has been removed from the original feed, or does it stay? What's the
expected behaviour?

Depending on how you want to read it, both FOR and FROM work just fine.

What enabling that setting means is that if your blog is really being mirrored
from somewhere else (the link would otherwise point to a remote site that
originated the blog content), then whenever someone clicks on the link, rather
than staying on your site with an internal link to your instance of Community
Server, they will go to the originating site.

(I see it as the link being FOR an external site, because the content is local,
but the destination of the link is remote).

The content that has been mirrored to your blog should continue to exist.
