Is it really a 2-bit image not a 1-bit?

? 2-bit? I've not heard of a 2-bit image. There's a 1-bit image where
there's only black and white, no shades of gray.
What is it that you're trying to achieve, actually? You can't scan anything
and come out with transparency at the same time.
In Photopaint, you can take a bitmap and apply a merge mode of Multiply and
that will essentially knock out a white background so you can see the other
layer(s) beneath it.

sure you can. If you save the item in PP as a CPT file (native Photopaint)
and then import that file into Draw, you will have X number of objects
grouped together (depends on how many objects in your PP file). Just ungroup
the items in Draw and you can move around to your heart's content.

I tried the suggestions for creating transparent backgrounds in bitmaps
Article ID: 206259. Unfortunately I could not get any of them to work on 2
bit scans in CD 11. Unfortunately the background of the 2 bit scan always
comes out white and the underlying image cannot be seen through it.
Converting to gif , eps or tiff failed miserably. Removing the background in
Photopaint and then sending to CD 11 fails as the white background
reappears. Bringing the 2 images together in photo paint works but I want to
use them independently in Corel Draw to fine tune the printing.
The best compromise I found was converting to a vector by tracing the bitmap
with corel trace. The only problem there is that the centre of letters such
as the letter "O" still remain white.
I need help with 2 questions please:
1- Is there a way to make 2 bit scans with a transparent background that
works in CD 11.
2- Is it possible to trace a 2 bit scan so that the "holes" also
appear
transparent?

Just import the gif or jpg gfx. Then do a convert to black and white.
Now select the object. Click on the background or foreground color in Corel.
Now click on the Square wich is crossed out in the color palette and the
picture should be transparent on the selected color.
Works for me with Corel Essentials 2 (Coreldraw 9 or 11, don't know).
