Sorry if ths is barking up the wrong tree. As a longtime duffer when it comes to
macros I resort to a very clunky, but reliable workaround. Put your text into
Word, do your search and replaces from there, and then come back to Draw. You
can write a suitable macro in Word to automate all this. It's the only thing I
ever use Word for!

Word's search and replace is delightfully powerful, and the keystroke recorder
makes it doubly useful for saving repeat jobs (like removing multiple spaces and
paragraph markers).
