| Any way to keep gradients when bringing pdfs from illy to Cdraw? |

I am trying to bring a file I made in illustrator into corel. In the file I
have a circle that I put a circular gradient in and then smooshed the circle
and gradient down to make an ellipse type shape. When I open it in corel,
the circle stays smooched but the gradient goes back to being circular if
that makes sense. Is there a way to make this work?

Dennis, even though Illy and Draw work together exceedingly well, gradients
are one of those things that every vector program does differently. For
example, using one from Freehand can be a true nightmare. I really believe
this is one of those things best kept in the program that created it. For
example, if you follow the same steps of "smooshing" your
gradient-filled
circle in Illy and Draw, chances are the gradients in each will look
noticeably different. Or, if acceptable, you could rasterize the object in
Illustrator.
Just my 2 cents. Others may have other ideas.

If you save as an EPS in Illy, your gradient will break up into separate
objects. This makes for a larger file in Corel but it will retain the
same look.
Caveat... your gradient fill will not be editable in Corel since it is
now a series of objects.

As already suggested, there is no way to distort a gradient in draw, that I
know of. Your two options are to rasterize the gradient in Illy and import
that, or expand it's appearance in Illy and import that. Both have pros and
cons, the most obvious one being that the gradient is no longer editable in
draw.

Both Draw and Illustrator support radial and linear fountain fills (gradients),
and they should work fine when exported/imported via the AI filter. So far so
good.
If you distort the object in Illy, the fill is distored with it. This feature is
not supported
by Draw, and hence it will not import as expected. On the other hand, there are
conical and square fountain fills in Draw that has no equivalence in
Illustrator, and
therefore they cannot be imported to Illustrator as a true gradient fill.
