Did you say the buckle belongs to a Texan? Do a Google search for
leather tooling designs...like this one:

The floral/scrollwork type leather tooling is called Sheridan style. I
only remember that because my sister had a saddle with this type of
designs on it. I thought perhaps the belt buckle might be the same
style, only in metal.
