Windows XP has no limit on the number of fonts, although a great many
might affect performance.

This looks like an old copy (?) of Microsoft Works trying to prevent
what hasn't been a serious problem since Windows 3.1, although Windows
9x/ME did have font quantity restrictions.

My first instinct would be to see if there's a newer version of Works
available, but even if it is, and it solved the problem, reducing the
number of permanently installed fonts is always a good idea.

Yes, Font Navigator can definitely help. What you do is set up groups
of fonts that Font Navigator will keep track of let you install and
uninstall as a group. How you break up these groups is completely up
to you. You can do it by project, by type of use, or any other
categorization that makes sense to you and how you work.

How to reduce the number of fonts
Mon, 5 Nov 2007 20:03:17 -0000
When I opened a programme I got the attached message.
Last time I tried to reduce the number of fonts I took a long time deleting
them one by one, and seemed to accidentally delete a font which was vital
for the working of Windows. It has looked a bit odd ever since.
Can anyone recommend how to reduce the number of fonts quickly? I would be
happy to delete all but the essential ones, and reintroduce the others as I
find I need them

It is WindowsXP, and I am using CorelDraw10 which has font navigator, if
that is of any use.

One caveat from that list - The XP list doesn't include Marlett,
which is absolutely necessary! It may have been omitted because the
default installs it as a hidden file. Also, don't delete any of the
..fon files - the ones with the red "A" icon.
