Good picture.
There's an easy to find the major and minor axes. Use the 2 point line
tool, start from the center of the ellipse, and move the second point
approximately where the major axis is. A "Perpendicular" snap point
will
appear. You can now snap a temporary line, and remove it later when you're
done (or put it on a work layer which you can hide before publishing).
