Unfortunately not possible. The common alternative is to finish the
selection where it is, zoom and pan to a new area, then add to the
selection by holding the Shift key when you begin drawing with the
mouse. Holding the Ctrl key similarly subtracts from the selection.
A second alternative is Selection > Edit Selection. In this mode,
any of the brush tools work to add to (paint white) or subtract from
(paint black) the selection. Selection > Edit Selection again
toggles back to regular editing. For more on both alternatives, see
Help > Contents > Making Selections in Images.

It isn't possible. The easy way to do all this is to train
yourself to make the selection in sections by using Shift
with the selection tool to add to what you have already
selected after panning to the next section of the image.
You only need to be careful at the edges of the object when
you do this and can just roughly click around any unselected
interior holes to finish up the selection after you've
zoomed out.
One suggestion you haven't got yet is to do View > Magnifier.
(It's a toggle so a second application of the command switches
the Magnifier off.) With the Magnifier you can see the entire
image at low zoom but see a five-fold magnified area at your
mouse location, which you can use to place your mouse clicks
very precisely.

Its not Unfortunately. When doing a selection you cant stop or pause until
you have completed the selection But You can add to selections if you need
to right click to complete you can then make a further selection that is
added to the first and so on.

I am not even sure that I can explain this, but...using PSP 8.10.......when
I am using the Freehand/Point to Point Selection Tool for tubing, and I have
zoomed well in, say 200%. to carefully work my way around an area, I
sometimes have trouble finding the beginning of my 'trail'.........I was
wondering if there is a way of zooming out again, without losing my
selection? Maybe this is not possible......?
